The UPC School of Civil Engineering reinforces its collaboration with the University of Melbourne in the field of digital twins

Professor Rolando Chacón, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the UPC School of Civil Engineering, has commenced a six-month research stay at the Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration (CSDILA) at the University of Melbourne (Australia).

The research stay, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (grant PRX24/00111), is part of the competitive project TWINTEREST (Twins for Infrastructure, Territory and Transformable Spaces), coordinated by Professor Rolando Chacón.

The project aims to advance the development of open and interoperable digital twins for infrastructures and cities, using semantic technologies and knowledge graphs that integrate BIM models, reality capture, structural analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), and asset management platforms.

This mobility is carried out in collaboration with Professors Abbas Rajabifard and Davood Shojaei, internationally renowned researchers from the University of Melbourne. This stay will strengthen the collaboration between both institutions, validate the methodologies developed in Australian and Spanish case studies, and boost new international research initiatives in the field of digital twins for territory and infrastructures.
