Two Escola de Camins students —Anastasiya Delis, from the Bachelor's Degree in Marine Sciences and Technologies, and Nàdia Vidal, from the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering— are part of the winning team of the fifth edition of the ULISSES Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), held in Lisbon. The project, focused on the management and sustainability of marine and coastal ecosystems, was awarded best proposal among high-level academic teams from several European universities.
A group of students from the marine and environmental disciplines of our School participated this July in the final stage of the ULISSES project (University of Lisbon Interdisciplinary Studies on Sustainable Environment and Seas). This international initiative, jointly organized by the Universidade de Lisboa, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and Technische Universität Darmstadt within the framework of the UNITE! European University Alliance and the Erasmus+ program, aims to train future generations of professionals to address complex global challenges related to ocean sustainability.
The program featured an initial 10-week online learning module on sustainability and oceanic challenges, followed by a three-week intensive stay in the Portuguese capital from July 7 to 25. During this in-person phase, students worked in multidisciplinary teams of four to develop applied solutions for real-world issues in marine pollution and environmental preservation, under the mentorship of renowned experts and researchers.
This year's edition has reinforced the academic excellence of our degree programs. The team awarded by the international evaluation panel included two of our students: Anastasiya Delis, from the Bachelor's Degree in Marine Sciences and Technologies, and Nàdia Vidal, from the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering. Their proposal stood out for its technical rigor, innovative environmental data processing, and practical applicability to coastal management.
This achievement reaffirms the ability of UPC's Escola de Camins students to lead international, transdisciplinary projects, delivering engineering and applied science solutions to climate crisis challenges and marine protection.
From Escola de Camins, we extend our congratulations to all participating students and, most specially, to Anastasiya and Nàdia for this international recognition!
