Professor Eugenio Oñate Inducted as Full Member of the Real Academia de Ingeniería

Professor Eugenio Oñate, Professor at the School of Civil Engineering and founder of the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), has been officially inducted as a full member of the Real Academia de Ingeniería.
In his acceptance speech, titled Eulogy of Mechanics, Professor Oñate traced the historical and scientific evolution of mechanics, highlighting its essential contribution to engineering progress and the technological development of society. Furthermore, he emphasized the key role of numerical simulation and new computational tools in strategic fields such as energy, infrastructure, mobility, and sustainability.
The official reply to the speech was delivered by Professor Antonio Huerta, also a Professor at the School of Civil Engineering, a full member of the Real Academia de Ingeniería, and an internationally renowned researcher in computational mechanics.
With this distinction, the Real Academia de Ingeniería recognizes Professor Oñate's outstanding research and teaching career, making him an international benchmark in numerical methods applied to engineering. Throughout his career, he has driven numerous research and technology transfer initiatives with a global impact, contributing to the international prestige of CIMNE, the School of Civil Engineering, and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
