Double Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering and in Marine Science & Techniques

Double degree BsDEE + BsDMST

Sustainable development is no longer an option; it's an urgent necessity that connects the economy, society, and the environment.

This new dual degree program stems from the natural need to combine Environmental Engineering with Marine Technologies to address climate and environmental challenges from a holistic perspective. We train you to be the missing piece: the professional capable of understanding ocean science (the great regulator of the climate) and, at the same time, designing the infrastructure that protects the environment.

Don't choose between being a scientist or an engineer. Be both!

Learning objectives

The main objective of this dual degree is to train professionals with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary vision, capable of addressing the challenges of the climate emergency and global sustainability from a dual perspective: scientific and technological. The program aims to equip students with the tools to understand the dynamics of natural systems (oceans, atmosphere, land) and, at the same time, design the engineering solutions necessary to protect them, such as efficient resource management, marine renewable energies, and the circular economy. Ultimately, the goal is to create a hybrid and versatile profile, highly sought after in sectors such as the Blue Economy, prepared to lead projects that integrate the preservation of the marine environment with sustainable human development.

Career opportunities

This dual degree makes you a versatile professional, capable of working in both land engineering and maritime economics. You will be able to work in consulting firms, large engineering companies, public administration, research centers, and industry.

The main areas of work are:

Blue Economy and Coastal Management

  • Marine and Coastal Engineering: Beach regeneration projects, shoreline protection, and port management.
  • Energy and Marine Resources: Design and maintenance of offshore platforms (offshore wind, oil, gas) and desalination plants.
  • Maritime Sector: Sustainable aquaculture, maritime services, and environmental impact assessment at sea.

Water Cycle and Sustainability

  • Integrated Water Management: Design and operation of drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), both urban and industrial.
  • Environmental Quality: Pollution control in rivers, aquifers, and the sea. Soil decontamination and restoration of degraded areas.

Circular Economy and Waste

  • Waste Management: Design of treatment plants and recovery of solid waste.
  • Strategic Consulting: Environmental auditing (ISO, EMAS), product life cycle analysis, and implementation of net-zero production technologies in industry.

Climate Emergency and Renewable Energy

  • Climate Change Adaptation: Impact studies and projects to mitigate the effects of extreme weather on cities and ecosystems.
  • Energy Transition: Renewable energy and decarbonization projects.

Smart Technologies and Data Management

  • Environmental Digitization: Use of Big Data, sensors, and remote sensing (satellites/drones) to monitor the marine and terrestrial environment.
  • Smart Cities: Sustainable urban planning and green infrastructure.
