Means of admission

There are three different means to access the double degree:

  • 1st mean: Direct admission to the double degree (prior admission to one of the two master's degrees is necessary)
Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree granting access to either of the two master's degrees, including the additional training courses necessary. By this mean, students would start the first year of the double degree.
  • 2nd mean: Admission through the MDCE
Applicants must have completed their first year of the MDCE (60 ECTS) to access the double degree. By this mean, students would access the second year of the double degree.
  • 3rd mean: Admission through the MDUM
Applicants must have completed their first year of the MDUM (60 ECTS) to access the double degree and meet all the admission requirements of the MDCE, including the additional training courses necessary. By this mean, students would access the second year of the double degree.

How to apply

1st, 2nd & 3rd means: Should you be interested in applying for the double degree, please fill this form from June 1st till July 6th.

Admission criteria

The admission process will be done jointly by both schools, in a specific commission.

The application for admission to the double master's program will be made according to the calendar established by each centre, before the ordinary enrolment period.

If the number of applications exceeds the number of places offered in the academic year, these will be ordered according to the academic record, accessing the program those students with the best grades. Priority will be given to the students who access the double degree through the 1st mean (direct access to the double degree) described in the previous section.

To access the double degree, students must be admitted to the other master's degree at an individual level, meeting the pertinent criteria and with the training supplements stipulated in each case. In particular, the admission criteria to the MDUM are part of the admission criteria to the MDCE, thus admission to the latter implies meeting a greater number of requirements. Taking this into account, it is concluded that any student who meets the MDCE admission requirements, with the necessary training complements, may be admitted to the double degree.

You can find all the information about the admission criteria, on the websites of the schools teaching the master's degrees (MDCE (Admission > Admission criteria) and MDUM (Admission > Admission criteria)).

You can check the results of the evaluation and selection of the applications for admission resolutions for the current academic year here.

Competencies

The double master's degree curriculum has been designed in such a way that the two master's degrees are achieved in parallel, taking into account that the basic courses are taken, in general, before the more specilized ones, and that the existing electives in one master's degree serve to achieve specific competences of the other. Thus, in the overall curriculum, all the competences of both master's degrees are achieved. In case of having similar courses in both master's degrees (validatable between them according to the recognition tables), students are offered the possibility of choosing which one to take.

The curriculum contemplates that the study load in all the courses is 60 ECTS credits, except in the last year, which due to the simultaneous preparation of the two Master's theses, the load is 80 ECTS. In this sense, and according to the Academic Regulations for Bachelor's and Master's degrees at UPC, students will have the option of completing a single assignment summing up the teaching load (credits) of all the assignments for both degrees or two different reports, each one having the corresponding teaching load (credits). In any case, students must register and pay for both theses. This approach reduces the time students need to obtain the double master's degree, and clearly demonstrates that obtaining a double degree requires additional effort.

Objectives

This double degree proposal, aims to respond to the labor market's demand for competent professionals, in the field of transport and mobility, in the broadest sense, both from its infrastructural point of view to that of management and services. Furthermore, it opens new professional perspectives to graduates in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. We understand that this proposal is an ideal combination professionally. Furthermore, it is attractive for students, as evidenced by the fact that, on a recurring basis, each year, some students who complete the Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering show their concern about the dilemma of choosing between the MDUM, which attracts them for the novelty and projection of the studies, or the MDCE, which they value for its prestige and professional training. In this sense, it is considered that the double degree will serve as a stimulus for new students, both from the UPC and from other universities, since the double degree will be unique in the catalog of master's degrees nation-wide.

Career opportunities

Students will be able to:

  • Choose from a new offer with broader future professional possibilities.
  • Obtain the professional attributes offered by the MDCE, while acquiring specific knowledge in the management, operations and financing of transport and logistics systems.
  • Achieve skills in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Become professionals with a broader vision of the current labor market.
  • Obtain a better position when accessing the labor market.
  • Get more valued and well-paid work placements.
